REPRIEVE House Finches Price: $ The berries are on a plant called beautybush or sometimes buckbrush, a small, tough shrub that grows thickly in old fields throughout the Ozark region and elsewhere in the southeastern United States. In the winter months it is one of the few things sporting any color... besides house finches. The house finch is a newcomer to my part of the country which is better known for being the native range of a similar species, the purple finch. House finches came from the pacific northwest, and were accidently introduced to the St. Louis area not too long ago. Since that time they have spread, pleasantly so, as these gregarious birds have a rather charming voice- a soft chirp that rises at the end as if questioning their place in the world. |
